在王建硕的博客里看到硅谷的中文地名一文，因我公司总部涉及其中Mountain View和Sunnyvale，特转贴与此，以飨读者。:)
Santa Clara只有一个译名：圣克拉拉。好像玩具的名字。
最让人匪夷所思的就是San Jose。在加入eBay之前，还真的没有发对过这个音。我问了很多在上海的朋友这个单词看起来应该怎么发音，回答都是“三-旧-斯”。后来发现，它的正确发音是：三-侯-塞。Jo居然发音为Ho，按西班牙方式发音，中文译为：圣何塞，或者比较少听到的文雅译名：山河城。
不用说San Francisco虽然也被称为圣弗朗西斯科，而更通用的叫法还是旧金山。

终于还是逃不出宕机的命运。
记得Yupoo刚出现的时候，国内IT届的不少朋友都奔走相告，喜形于色，国内终于也出了类似Flickr的服务，“支持国货！”，大家一致看好，虽然其间也有少许声音提醒大家冷静，不过鼓励还是必须的，至少泡沫还没破，不是么？
不过由于就在Yupoo面世之前，我也和几个朋友着手过类似项目的筹划，深知其中的水有多深，且不说费用，速度这些方面，光是整个存储网络架构设计就不是等闲之辈能做的事，毕竟我们需要的不只是能运行，而是“稳定压倒一切！”，你掌管的是你用户的数据，那就是你上帝的财产，可不是用来骗VC的资本，而是你生存的资本。每每有朋友向我推荐Yupoo的时候，我只能善意的提醒他们老老实实的做好照片的备份。
虽然官方一直在说损失的图片可以恢复，但最后是不是不了了之谁也不知道，国内的免费服务有这样的先例实在不不胜枚举，希望这次可以处理好，至少这类危机公关你得做好了吧，要不然真的会死得很难看。

Call for Volunteers for the China Education Expo 2006 with Education UK
Dear all,
I am writing to invite volunteers for the forthcoming exhibitions – China Education Expo 2006 with Education UK – which is to be held in Shanghai and Nanjing in October. British Council will be in charge of the UK Pavilion in both exhibitions. There will be 52 UK institutions participating in the two-day exhibition in Shanghai and 37 in Nanjing. The exhibitions will showcase the educational excellence in the UK to the general public, and will introduce the most up-to-date course and application information.

Talking about volunteers, we would welcome your assistance in the following roles in both exhibitions.
Role A – Counter Consultant: Handling visitor enquiries at British Council counter for half a day (2 Alumni for each slot)
Role B – Seminar Speaker: Delivering a PPT presentation on UK study and living experiences in the seminar room
No matter where and what you have studied in the UK, I would appreciate your enthusiastic volunteering in the exhibitions.
